Program Overview

Head coach Matt Roventini ’92, P ’21, ’25 has led the Poly Prep Baseball program to national prominence. Since taking over the program in 2004, under his leadership, the Poly Baseball program has accumulated 14 consecutive Ivy Prep League titles, 11 NYSAIS championships in 15 years (2023), and one undefeated season (2007). Roventini has had more than 50 players go on to play collegiate baseball, with seven being selected in the MLB draft since 2010, including J.J. Franco ’10, son of longtime New York Mets pitcher John Franco. Along with former team captain and current assistant Matt Durando ’96, P’30, Roventini’s program plays against top regional competition and in national tournaments each season.

Education: Hamilton College – BA

A graduate of the Class of ’92, Matt was a 3 sport athlete at Poly playing football, basketball and was captain of the baseball team his senior year. The Rockaway Beach, NY native played both baseball and football at Hamilton College, and began his coaching career with the South Shore High School football team before taking over the Poly baseball program in 2004. Since then, Roventini has led the Blue Devils to 14 consecutive Ivy Prep League titles and 10 NYSAIS championships, the wins fueled by lineups that have produced 50 college players and seven Major League Baseball draft picks. Roventini has been honored as the 2017 American Baseball Coaches Association Division 2 Coach of the Year and the 2009 New York State Sportswriters High School Coach of the Year, though he says he’s “more proud of the relationships I’ve built over the years” at Poly. Away from the school, he is co-owner of the Premier Baseball Performance Center of New York and the New York Phenoms college summer team (ACBL), and counts cooking and carpentry among his hobbies. Matt is the parent of two Poly Prep students.

Baseball Facilities
